Christmas is my favourite time of the year. It’s a time to unwind and catch up with family & friends to eat, drink and be merry. It’ also a nice thought to know that everyone knows me well enough to make sure that there’s a present or two waiting under the Christmas tree. Something to do with my bike.
Rapha Festive 500
Yes Christmas is a great time of the year…… except for the fact that I overindulge, sleep a lot and don’t get a chance to get out on my bike. Factors that always lead to me adding few extra pounds and a loss of fitness. Since 2010 Rapha has inspired riders worldwide to get over their Christmas hangovers, and inspire one and all to get out and ride. The Rapha Festive 500 has challenged cyclists to ride 500km on the eight days between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve; 24 December 2015 — 31 December 2015. This means averaging 62.5km each day of this challenge.
All participants who complete the challenge will be invited to claim a commemorative woven roundel. The Rapha judges will be keeping an eye on your creative submissions to commend amazing efforts. Celebrate glorious failures. And showcase a wealth of inspiring tales from the road.
You can visit the the Rapha Festive 500 webpage for more information.
For those who have holidays over this period, completing 500km may not seem easy. At least there is time on your side. Spare a thought for the working class person. Not only do they have to work over Christmas. They also have to endure watching on Strava as many of their friends go out and have the time of their lives riding. Something they would much rather be doing than working.
I like to stand behind the working class person. The underdogs of this challenge who need to squeeze in 500km around social and work commitments. No easy challenge! If you can complete this challenge whilst still working we’d love to hear your story, and to congratulate your amazing feat.
