Colby Drive is a short enjoyable climb in the backstreets of Belgrave South.  It’s one of those climbs that is a pure joy to climb.  It has a great road surface, is pleasant on the eye, has very little traffic and has a nice consistent gradient.

When turning onto Colby Drive, please keep an eye out for loose gravel which washes down from Zig Zag Road.

The climb starts at the intersection of Belgrave-Hallam Road and Colby Drive.

 The first 600 metres averages 6%, and is a fairly consistent gradient throughout and a fairly straight road.

 The road was resurfaced in 2014, and is in excellent condition.

You will come upon a hairpin, and as you enter it you’ll come upon the steepest part of the climb.  The gradient peaks at 12% into the corner.

The next 500 metres is a fairly straight stretch.  With the gradient slightly increasing all the way to the end of this section and peaks at just under 8% at the top.

When you hit the corner of Colby Drive and Lockwood Road, follow the road around to your left.

The last 400 metres has not been resurfaced, however it is still in decent condition to ride.

The first 30 metres flattens out, and then the gradient ranges between 4 – 5% for the remainder of the climb.  You’ll be passing through a residential street.  But there are a number of other shops, a church, the CFA, and Central Park which is home to a Tennis court throughout this section.

 The climb finishes in front of the Belgrave South Primary School, and there is an excellent Bakery across the road.
